NALANDA is a journey, which started way back in 1996 with the sole
objective of providing quality primary education to every child who had not yet
entered that glorious gateway. Over the years Nalanda has found its focus as a
Resource Center in Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand for fostering better learning
through developing education model, suitable learning materials and resources,
providing sought for technical support and capacitating organizations and
institutions so that they may further strengthen the cause of quality primary
education. Nalanda’s focus in Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand has been to strengthen
the government education system and to work on educational issues relevant to
the poorer sections of society, especially Muslims, Dalits and Tribals and for
girl children who have limited access to quality primary education, especially
in rural areas.
NALANDA was established with the exclusive mandate of working in the
field of basic education for the states of Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand. As
there are several large (Government) and small (NGOs) education programs, it
decided to focus on building itself up as a center for Educational Innovation,
Which would act as a resource centre that functions as a catalyst and
provides support to different organizations working on elementary education.
Vision and Nalanda is designed as a Resource Centre for Educational Innovation. Its principal goal is to make available quality basic education for all children; particularly children from poorer households who cannot afford expensive schools and hence often denied any kind of educational opportunity. It has been promoted to work towards a system of basic education which makes the child the centre of any educational venture.
The vision of NALANDA is to ensure universal quality primary education
so as to create an informed society, which is empowered by knowledge to take its
own decisions for its development.
NALANDA has defined its mission as: “To work towards providing access to quality basic education for children from the poorer sections of society through community mobilization, advocacy, support, innovative programs and training.” |
